Here’s the story of the beginning of Michael Patton’s career in pest control and the founding of Patton Termite & Pest Control.
About Michael Patton
Michael Patton, A.C.E. (Associate Certified Entomologist) was born in Quantico, VA. He was born at the naval hospital as the son of a U.S. Marine. His family moved to Southeast Oklahoma where he attended elementary school. After, they moved to Kansas and eventually landed in Valley Center, KS. Michael graduated from Valley Center High School. Then, he graduated from Wichita State University with a B.S. in Communications with emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising.
His Start in the Industry
His career in termite and pest control happened by chance. In 1978 he got a job answering the phone for a family owned pest control company. At the time, he had been laid off by an engineering firm during the recession of 1978-80. He enjoyed working in the pest control industry so much that he continued working for that company for a total of 21 years. By this point, Michael and his wife Lora had three young children and a fourth on the way and they needed health insurance. The company he was with didn’t see this as a priority so he left and went to work at Dillon’s and did various other jobs until his non-compete was up.
The Founding of Patton Termite & Pest Control
In 1999, Lora and Mike Patton, along with another partner, started Patton & Keehn Pest Control out of the Patton’s basement. They operated out of their home for two years. Later, they moved to a single office in Reflection Ridge Office Park. With much help and support over the last 19 years from family and friends, Patton Termite & Pest Control has grown tremendously. There are 22 total employees on our team including 13 service technicians in the field and 9 employees in the office full-time. Mike and Lora Patton are the CEO and CFO of the company. Their daughter, Julie, manages the office. Their son in law, Gerry, manages general operations.

Passion for the Community
We take a great deal of pride in our community because we are locally owned and family operated. Our company participates in many different events in Kansas throughout the year. You can see us teaching kids about bugs at Earth Day at the Sedgwick County Zoo, running in the River Run at Riverfest, providing information at the Kansas Pest Control Association booth at the State Fair, offering outdoor pest solutions at the Outdoor Living and Landscape show at Century II, and many more. We don’t just provide service to the people in our community, we are actively involved. The Patton family and business has been part of the fabric of the community since 1999.
