A Pest-Free Home for the Holidays

This holiday season, much of your focus will be spent grocery shopping, decorating your home, and preparing food. Hosting takes so much time and effort, but if you have pests in your home, that’s all anyone will remember. Don’t let pests ruin your holidays! Here are some things you should keep in mind if you’re trying to keep your home pest-free this holiday season.

A Pest-Free Home Starts with a Clean Kitchen

When hosting during the holiday season, the kitchen receives a lot of attention. Cockroaches like to give the kitchen attention too. They love warm and damp places in the home, especially if these places have food debris. This includes under and behind appliances such as the refrigerator, dishwasher, and stove. Check these areas thoroughly for roach activity. Make sure nooks and crannies in your kitchen are clear of crumbs and food debris.

You may also get ants, mice, and other insects so clean your kitchen thoroughly before and after the holiday festivities. Your cabinets and pantry can also be a feasting ground for mice. If you find one rodent, it’s likely there are more. For a pest-free home, check your food items for gnaw marks and holes, and your cabinets and pantry for droppings. If you find any activity, or are interested in rodent prevention, call a professional like Patton Termite & Pest Control.

De-web Your Exterior

Spiders love building webs on the exterior of your home, especially near outdoor lights buzzing with bug activity. Before guests arrive, create a pest-free home by knocking down spider webs with a brush or broom. Some spider activity is inevitable outdoors, but don’t let them take over all corners of your doors, windows, and eaves. Or, better yet, have Patton Termite & Pest Control treat the exterior of your home to minimize the spider activity.

Don’t Share Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are notorious hitchhikers and can easily enter your home on people’s personal items, like coats and bags. Have your guests put their items in a single location like a coat closet to keep the risk contained. This way you can inspect the area afterwards. However, if your home already has a bed bug infestation, you can likely transfer bed bugs to your guests. For a pest-free home, it’s best to have your home thoroughly treated by a professional before you have anyone over.
